Hey Iwan,
One of my blog posts dropped to position #57 for a 2,000/month keyword.
Most people would've let it die there.
Instead, I used a repeatable SEO system—and it climbed back to #1.
If you've got articles slipping in the rankings, this strategy literally forces them back up.
Here's how to do it:
1. Set quarterly audit reminders
Mark these dates in your calendar: Jan 1, Apr 1, Jul 1, Oct 1
On those days, run a comparison report in your rank tracker (Accuranker, Ahrefs, or Semrush all work).
Compare your current rankings to where they were 3 months ago.
Find all the keywords that dropped, and flag those articles for immediate updates.
Prioritize articles that fell off page 1 of Google (fastest ROI) and those with no change in rankings.
Go through each article and check these 4 things:
2. Search Intent Alignment
Google's expectations change constantly.
Look at what's ranking right now for your keyword.
If Google is rewarding listicles or tools and you've got a blog post, it's time to switch formats.
3. Answer Position
People bounce fast if they don't get what they want.
Move your answer to the top of the page, right above the fold.
No intros. No fluff. Just answer the query straight away.
4. NLP-Friendly Formatting
Make your content easy to extract.
Use this simple structure:
"[Query] is [Answer]."
Example: "The best time to brew beer is 60°F."
It's the fastest way to win featured snippets and answer boxes.
6. AI Re-Optimization
What worked last year might not work now.
Run your content through SurferSEO (or a similar NLP tool). Check for:
- Terms that top-ranking pages are using that you missed
- Over-optimized phrases/entities that need toning down
- Internal links, headings, and structural gaps
I've used this exact process on dozens of declining pages and watched them bounce back fast.
Try this the next time your rankings slip up, and let me know how it goes.
To your continued success,
Matt Diggity
